Wetland Benthic Invertebrates

Benthic invertebrate community data (taxonomy and abundance) collected from shallow open water wetlands in the Oil Sands Region by Alberta Environment and Parks for the OSM program. Full benthic invertebrate dataset provided, which identifies organisms to the lowest feasible taxonomic level, and includes both benthic and non-benthic organisms. Non-benthic taxa such as cladocerans, ostracods, and copepods are important primary consumers in wetland habitats. Details on sample processing are available upon request.

Usage Considerations or Constraints Data represent single time-point conditions and are not representative of intra-annual variability (i.e., seasonal changes in diversity or composition). The data presented here include non-target organisms such as zooplankton. Zooplankton data do not represent a true survey of this community because the kick net used during sampling is not a valid method collection for the planktonic community. These data should be used with caution.
