REPS Periphyton Taxonomy

Periphyton is a complex assemblage of organisms as a biofilm composed of algae, cyanobacteria, fungi, detritus, and other organisms. Monitoring periphyton is a strong indicator for short term impacts on periphyton communities and the systems that rely on them. Periphyton was sampled in the open water season of 2013 (July, August, October) Sample sites are on a gradient moving closer in proximity to industry to delineate effects of natural and anthropogenic contaminants. This periphyton was sampled using the standard area-delimited method.
