- Description:
- Abstract:
- This dataset comprises modelled elevation surfaces of Quaternary sediment units in the North Athabasca Oil Sands (NAOS) region in northeastern Alberta. These include the basal sand units in the Willow, Birch, and Alder buried channels on the McKay Plain, as well as the Pemmican valley on Muskeg Mountain. On the north bank of the Clearwater River is a broad basal Steepbank sand unit. A clay unit and overlying sand are also modelled for this area. Till units 1 though 5, identified in core by previous work, were modelled for Muskeg Mountain. A near-surface sand unit was also modelled.
- Purpose:
- To provide a model of elevation values of the near-surface Quaternary units in the North Athabasca Oil Sands (NAOS) region.

- Data Quality Information:
- Logical Consistency Report:
- Data were checked so that surfaces do not cut beneath bedrock or rise above the ground surface (Altalis, 2017).
- Completeness Report:
- The surfaces represent the extent to which units could be mapped. Limited data for the numbered tills on Muskeg Mountain limited the extent of those units to that area, they may be more extensive.

- Process Step:
- Process Description:
- Geological unit picks (DIG 2023-0018) were modelled by simple kriging in ArcMap 10.8.1. The extents of the subsurface units were determined by interpretation of well log data, and/or intersection of the modelled unit surface with the bedrock (DIG 2020-0022) and ground surfaces (AGS 76-48).
